The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the arrest of Janty Emmanuel for the abuse of the naira at a social event. Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s spokesperson, stated on Tuesday that Emmanuel was apprehended on Monday after being seen spraying naira notes at the gathering.
Emmanuel reportedly admitted to the offense after being presented with video evidence of her actions. “Upon arrest, the suspect was shown the video where she was dancing at G-Connect, Tumfure, Gombe State, and spraying N1000 denomination naira notes,” the EFCC statement read. Emmanuel confirmed her involvement and will face charges once the investigation is complete.
This arrest follows a recent crackdown by the EFCC on illegal currency trading and naira abuse. On Monday, the agency announced the conviction of 31 individuals in Kano for similar offenses. Additionally, last month, social media celebrity Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison for abusing naira notes.
The EFCC continues to emphasize the importance of respecting Nigeria’s currency and adhering to legal standards regarding its use.
