    Share

The Senate, on Tuesday, recalled Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi of Bauchi Central Senatorial District from suspension.

A statement issued by Emmanuel Eche’Ofun, Media Adviser to the Senate minority leader, said the motion for the suspended senator’s recall was moved by the Senate minority leader, Senator Abba Patrick Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial District.

The motion, titled “Unconditional Recall of Senator Abdul Ningi,” called for the Senate to reverse the suspension of Senator Ningi, who was suspended on March 12 for three months.

The suspension was a result of Senator Ningi’s allegations of budget padding amounting to N3.7 trillion, made during an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa Service on March 9, 2024.

Senator Ningi’s suspension was initiated by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.

The motion cited Ningi’s violation of legislative rules, misconduct, and unethical behavior as the reasons for his suspension.

Senator Moro’s motion on Tuesday included a single plea: for the Senate to reconsider its decision from March 13, 2024, and reinstate Senator Ningi so he could resume his legislative duties.

“The Senate Minority Leadership accepts full responsibility for the actions of our colleague, Senator Ningi, and we apologize on his behalf,” Moro stated.
