The National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Alex Chiedozie Ogbonnia, has revealed that he’s been targeted with death threats purportedly from individuals claiming allegiance to Finland-based leader of the Indigeneous People of Biafra (IPOB), Simon Ekpa.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, said, “Since four days ago, my phone has been inundated with phone calls by unknown persons alleging that I want to kill Mr. Simon Ekpa; and that they will kill me first, before I kill their leader, Mr. Ekpa.”
The accusations, according to Ogbonnia, are not only baseless but absurd.
“Of course, that I can or will kill Ekpa is the most ridiculous, malicious, mischievous and satanic of all the statements in this world,” he exclaimed.
“It is a common knowledge that I don’t have the capacity to kill.”
As the spokesperson for Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ogbonnia stressed his commitment to standing by the core Igbo interests and the positions of Ohanaeze on national issues.
He addressed his recent comments regarding the sit-at-home protests in the South East, emphasizing that Ohanaeze Ndigbo is a persuasive, not coercive, organization.
“I emphasized that Ohanaeze Ndigbo has appealed to our son, Mr. Ekpa, to come home for a dialogue and that we will continue to appeal for peace in the South East,” Ogbonnia stated, reaffirming Ohanaeze’s stance on the matter.
Despite the alleged threats to his life, Ogbonnia reiterated the commitment of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to promote peace and unity.
“The primary duty of a freedom fighter is to defend and protect his people, and not the contrary,” he affirmed.
