Governor Dapo Abiodun Ogun State has issued three executive orders aimed at restructuring the state’s governance and land management policies.
In a statement released on Saturday in Abeokuta, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the Governor, detailed the significance of these executive orders.
Two new agencies, the Ogun State Mineral Resources Development Agency and the Ogun State Landscaping and Recreation Agency, are set to be established under the directives.
According to Akinmade, the first executive order prohibits traditional rulers from entering into any Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concerning mining activities or land matters within their domains.
This move seeks to centralize decision-making processes regarding mining and land use under the state government’s purview.
“The Mineral Resources Development Agency will collaborate with host communities to conduct geo-technical and geological surveys of solid mineral deposits,” Akinmade explained.
“Simultaneously, the Landscaping and Recreation Agency aims to enhance environmental sustainability through parks and recreational centers statewide.”
Akinmade highlighted the immediate implementation of these orders, emphasizing their legal basis in Section 5(2) of the 1999 Constitution, granting executive powers to the governor for effective governance.
“Executive Order One is crucial for organizing the solid minerals sector in Ogun State, ensuring it serves the state’s best interests through structured regulation and community engagement,” Akinmade stated.
“Executive Order Two underscores our commitment to environmental regeneration and beautification efforts, promoting a healthier and aesthetically pleasing environment across the state.
“Executive Order Three aims to curb irregularities in land management and mining activities by restricting traditional rulers from engaging in MoUs that undermine government regulations,” Akinmade emphasised.
