Paris Saint-Germain Ladies have secured a significant addition to their squad with the signing of Nigerian football star Jennifer Onyi Echegini.
The talented midfielder has inked a four-year contract that will see her wearing PSG’s colors until June 2027.
Echegini arrives at PSG following a successful tenure at Juventus Women, where her impact was felt deeply despite a brief six-month stint.
During her time in Italy, she made a remarkable impression, scoring 10 goals and providing an assist in just 16 appearances across the league and Italian Cup.
Her contributions were pivotal in Juventus’ qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League and earned her recognition in the Team of the Year, alongside being named the season’s best young player.
Expressing her excitement about the move, Echegini shared on the official Paris Saint-Germain website, “Today is a very significant moment in my career. Signing with Paris Saint-Germain is an immense honor. I am very proud to join a club known worldwide for its ambition and excellence. I am eager to start and can’t wait to give my best to win as many trophies as possible with my teammates and for the fans.”
The 23-year-old Nigerian has had an illustrious career trajectory, having moved to the United States in 2019 to join the University of Mississippi before transferring to Florida State in 2022.
Her collegiate journey culminated in leading her team to the 2023 NCAA Championship title, where she also earned multiple individual accolades such as the best attacker and best player in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), as well as the prestigious Hermann Trophy.
Internationally, Echegini has already earned 10 caps for Nigeria’s Super Falcons, notably contributing to the team’s advancement to the knockout stages of the 2023 Women’s World Cup held in Australia.
She is also poised to represent her country at the upcoming Paris Olympic Games next month, highlighting her growing influence on the global stage.
Echegini’s move to PSG underscores the club’s commitment to bolstering its squad with top-tier talent as they aim for continued success both domestically and in European competitions.
Her arrival is expected to strengthen PSG’s midfield and provide a dynamic edge to their gameplay strategy for the upcoming seasons.
