Chelsea FC has announced their 28-man squad for the 2024 USA pre-season tour, featuring five Nigerian players.
The selected Nigerian players are Tosin Adarabioyo, Carney Chukwuemeka, Lesley Ugochukwu, Noni Madueke, and young winger Tyrique George.
Adarabioyo, the former Fulham defender will compete with Wesley Fofana, Axel Disasi, and Benoit Badiashile for a starting spot under new head coach Enzo Maresca.
Chukwuemeka and Ugochukwu, both midfielders have been linked with moves to AC Milan and Everton respectively.
This tour offers them an opportunity to secure their places at Stamford Bridge for the upcoming season.
Madueke, linked with a transfer to Newcastle, aims to prove his impressive form from the end of last season was no fluke.
George, an 18-year-old forward, is looking to gain first-team experience amid Chelsea’s busy schedule.
Chelsea’s pre-season in the USA kicks off with a match against Wrexham on Wednesday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Following this, the Blues will face Celtic, Club America, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.
They will conclude their tour with a final pre-season game against Inter Milan back in England.
Chelsea’s USA tour not only aims to prepare the team for the upcoming season but also allows players, especially the younger and newly signed ones, to make an impression and secure their positions in the team.
The club’s first Premier League match of the season is set against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on August 18.
