The leader of the foremost Igbo sociocultural group, Ohaeneze, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu, has passed away at the age of 82.
This sad news was confirmed in a statement released on Thursday by his son, Jide Iwuanyanwu.
According to the statement, Iwuanyanwu died on Thursday, July 25, 2024, following a brief illness.
“The Iwuanyanwu family of Umuohii Atta, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, announces the demise of our patriarch, Engr Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu-Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo,” the statement read.
Iwuanyanwu was a highly respected figure in the Igbo community.
He served as the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, a prominent socio-cultural organization, and was also the President of the Owerri Peoples Assembly.
His leadership and contributions to the Igbo people and Nigerian society at large have left an indelible mark.
The passing of Iwuanyanwu marks the end of an era for the Igbo community, and his legacy will be remembered and cherished by many.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
