The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has called for an investigation into Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, accusing him of inciting recent violent protests in the state. Ganduje claims that instead of the APC sponsoring the unrest as alleged by the Kano State government, it was Governor Yusuf who stirred up the protests to damage the image of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Edwin Olofu, on Thursday, Ganduje argued that Yusuf’s actions were aimed at undermining the President and creating chaos. Ganduje accused the governor of initially supporting the protesters but later abandoning them when the situation became uncontrollable.
The APC Chairman expressed alarm over what he described as a deliberate attempt to destabilize Kano and jeopardize the safety of its citizens.
“It is shocking that a sitting governor would incite such violence and chaos,” the statement reads. “This reckless behavior not only threatens the peace of Kano but also aims to tarnish the reputation of President Tinubu.”
Ganduje rejected accusations from Yusuf’s administration that he had sponsored hoodlums who allegedly raided a court and stole documents related to corruption charges against him. The APC Chairman dismissed these claims as ridiculous and a diversion from the real issue.
“It is absurd to suggest that protesters carefully selected and stole documents during a chaotic protest,” Ganduje said. “This allegation is nothing but a poor attempt to distract from the real problem at hand.”
According to Ganduje, the Kano State government’s claim about stolen documents is an attempt to divert attention from their own role in the violence. He argued that the governor’s administration is using false accusations to avoid accountability for the unrest that occurred in Kano.
The APC Chairman pointed out that Yusuf had previously encouraged protests and indicated he would join the demonstrators. Ganduje claimed that this support was part of a strategy to create unrest, which eventually spiraled out of control.
“The governor’s encouragement of the protestors and subsequent abandonment of them when the situation escalated shows a clear attempt to manipulate the situation for political gain,” Ganduje argued. “It is evident that his government funded and orchestrated the violence that occurred.”
