A former All Progressives Congress (APC)candidate for the Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Daniel Onjeh has strongly defended Governor Hyacinth Alia’s leadership of the party. This comes in response to actions by Mr. Augustine Agada, the party’s suspended chairman, who attempted to organize a State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting without the Governor’s approval.
Onjeh’s comments follow Agada’s efforts to convene an APC SEC meeting in Makurdi, which Governor Alia has firmly rejected. According to Onjeh, the Governor is the undisputed leader of the APC in Benue State, and no individual or group can challenge his authority.
He stated, “Governor Alia’s position as the leader of the APC and the Chief Security Officer of Benue State cannot be undermined. Any attempt to convene a meeting without his approval is not only unauthorized but could also disrupt the peace of the state.”
Onjeh urged the state government to resist any attempts to undermine the Governor’s authority. He warned that those attempting to organize unauthorized gatherings should be prepared to face serious consequences.
In response to the situation, Governor Alia has denied any knowledge of the SEC meeting allegedly organized by Agada. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, issued a statement on Thursday, stating that Alia had called off the meeting and warned against any disruptions.
Kula emphasized, “As the leader of the APC in Benue State and the Chief Security Officer, Governor Alia must be informed of any official gatherings. Nigeria is not a lawless state, and neither is Benue State. Those who attempt to undermine the authority of the state will face the full consequences of their actions.”
Onjeh has publicly supported Governor Alia, commending his leadership and the positive changes he has made since taking office. He urged the suspended chairman and his supporters to align with the Governor’s vision for the state and work towards its progress.
“Governor Alia has shown remarkable dedication to improving Benue State. Actions such as this unauthorized meeting are mere distractions,” Onjeh said. “We must focus on supporting the Governor and his efforts to deliver good governance and dividends of democracy to our people.”
Onjeh also advised APC stakeholders to reject the illegal meeting organized by Agada. He warned that participating in such actions could contribute to destabilizing the state and hindering its development.
