A cleaner working with Nigeria Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) in Kano has been hailed as a paragon of honesty after returning $10,000 left behind by a passenger on an Egypt Air flight.
The discovery and subsequent return of the money have earned him not only a cash reward but also a double promotion and the prestigious title of NAHCO Brand Ambassador.
The remarkable incident occurred during a routine cleaning session on an Egypt Air flight. Dankode, the cleaner, found the money on seat 25H, where it had been accidentally left by a passenger.
In a display of commendable honesty, he immediately reported the find to the airline’s Station Manager.
Speaking about the incident, Dankode recalled, “When I found the money, I knew I had to do the right thing. It wasn’t mine to keep. I’m just grateful to have the opportunity to work here and to be recognized for my actions.”
Dankode’s integrity did not go unnoticed. The NAHCO headquarters in Lagos recently hosted a special event to honor him for his honesty. NAHCO’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Indranil Gupta, praised Dankode’s actions and the values he represented.
“Dankode has demonstrated what it truly means to be a part of the NAHCO family,” said Gupta. “His honesty, diligence, and hard work make him a true ambassador of our company’s values. We are proud to recognize his exemplary conduct.”
In recognition of his honesty, Dankode reportedly received a substantial cash reward from the company, although the amount was not disclosed.
Additionally, he was promoted twice, reflecting his exceptional service and the high regard in which he is held by the company.
Dr. Sola Obabori, NAHCO’s Group Executive Director, commented, “Dankode’s actions have not only highlighted his personal integrity but have also positively reflected on NAHCO as a company.
“His story has brought us positive global attention and serves as an inspiration to others.”
Dankode was also given the title of NAHCO Brand Ambassador. In this new role, he will represent the company at major events across Nigeria, promoting its values of honesty and excellence.
The event was attended by key members of the NAHCO management team, including CFO Mr. Adeoye Emiloju and COO Mr. Didier Steullet, who also praised Dankode’s actions.
Emiloju emphasised the importance of integrity in the workplace, stating, “Dankode’s decision to return the money is a testament to the values we hold dear at NAHCO. It is crucial for us to uphold such standards and encourage others to do the same.”
Steullet added, “Dankode’s story is a shining example of what we stand for. His actions have set a high standard for everyone in our organization and beyond.”
Dankode expressed his gratitude for the recognition and support he received from NAHCO.
He noted that he was the first person from his local area to work at the airport, which made the achievement even more meaningful for him.
“I am thankful to NAHCO for the training and opportunity they have provided me.
“This company has empowered me to earn a decent living and has now recognized my efforts in a way I never expected,” Dankode said.
Dr. Obabori concluded, “We believe that Dankode will excel in his new role and continue to be a shining example of the values we cherish.
“His story is a reminder that integrity and hard work are always recognized and rewarded.”
