The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has sparked immediate action in response to the poor state of the Aideyan/Golf Course Road in Benin City.
Within 48 hours of issuing an order for contractors to return to the site and repair the road, work has resumed on the project, which had previously been left in an unacceptable condition.
Shaibu, known for his commitment to improving infrastructure in Edo State, had conducted an inspection of the road earlier in the week. During his visit, he expressed deep dissatisfaction with the quality of the work done and demanded that the contractors rectify the situation immediately.
“I am pleased to announce that my recent expose on the poorly reconstructed Aideyan/Golf Course road in GRA, Benin, has yielded swift results,” Shaibu stated. He emphasized that his administration will not accept substandard work on any project in the state, particularly one as crucial as the Aideyan/Golf Course Road.
The Aideyan/Golf Course Road is a key artery in Benin City’s Government Reserved Area (GRA), serving a significant number of residents and businesses. The road’s poor condition had caused considerable concern among local residents, who rely on it for daily commuting and business activities.
Many had raised complaints about the road’s deplorable state, citing potholes, flooding during the rainy season, and poor drainage as major issues. These concerns were not only about the inconvenience but also about safety, as bad roads can lead to accidents and damage to vehicles.
The road’s dilapidated state had persisted for months, leaving residents frustrated. The Deputy Governor’s inspection and subsequent order for repairs offered a glimmer of hope for the people of Edo State, especially those who live and work around the GRA.
Philip Shaibu has consistently made it clear that the Edo State government under his leadership, along with Governor Godwin Obaseki, is dedicated to ensuring that the state’s infrastructure meets the highest standards.
As part of his statement, Shaibu reiterated his commitment to quality work. “As the Deputy Governor of Edo State, I am committed to ensuring that our infrastructure meets the highest standards,” he said.
Shaibu acknowledged the importance of the Aideyan/Golf Course Road, calling it a “critical artery” that should not be neglected. He stressed that the poor condition of the road was “unacceptable” and would be addressed promptly.
He commended the contractors for their swift return to the site following his inspection, but also sent a strong message that substandard work would no longer be tolerated.
“As a government, we will no longer tolerate substandard work,” Shaibu said. He made it clear that the priority is the people’s interest, and every project undertaken in Edo State must reflect that commitment.
True to Shaibu’s words, less than 48 hours after his inspection, the contractors responsible for the road reconstruction returned to the site to fix the problems. The sight of construction workers and equipment moving back onto the road was a relief to many residents who had been waiting for the much-needed repairs.
Shaibu praised the contractors for their quick response and for demonstrating a willingness to deliver quality work. He encouraged them to maintain the same level of dedication throughout the remainder of the project.
He expressed optimism that the situation would be fully resolved and that the road would soon be restored to a condition that meets the high standards expected by the government and the people of Edo State.
The Aideyan/Golf Course Road is just one of many infrastructure projects that the Edo State government has embarked upon in recent years. The state has witnessed a significant focus on road construction and rehabilitation, aiming to improve transportation and boost economic activities.
