Austin Tam-George, a former Information Commissioner in Rivers State, has voiced strong criticism of Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Tam-George served under Wike’s administration and expressed his disappointment with the minister’s recent actions.
He believes Wike is actively working to destabilize Rivers State instead of focusing on his duties in the FCT.
In an interview, Tam-George did not hold back. He stated, “I am very disappointed in what the Minister is doing. He is the one orchestrating all this.”
Tam-George emphasized that Wike should concentrate on improving public services in the FCT.
He pointed out that the FCT is home to some of the worst public schools in Nigeria.
Instead of addressing these critical issues, Tam-George claims Wike is preoccupied with undermining the current administration in Rivers State.
He said, “What I expected him to do was to focus on his mandate in the FCT.”
The former commissioner highlighted the dire state of healthcare in Rivers.
According to Tam-George, the healthcare delivery system has been neglected for years.
He mentioned, “In Rivers State, healthcare delivery was abandoned for eight years.”
This situation requires urgent attention from the state government, and he believes Wike should not be distracting them from this responsibility.
Tam-George urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to prioritize education and healthcare.
He believes this focus is crucial for the development of Rivers State and the well-being of its citizens.
Tam-George reflected on his experiences in the previous administration.
He noted that many public primary and secondary schools in Rivers lack teachers, despite significant investments made by Wike’s government.
He stated, “When this Governor came in, he discovered most of the public Primary and Secondary schools do not have teachers.”
This lack of qualified educators severely impacts the quality of education in the state.
Tam-George accused Wike of creating conditions that could lead to a state of emergency in Rivers.
He believes the former governor is deliberately attempting to destabilize the state for his own political gain.
“There is a desperation on the part of the FCT Minister,” Tam-George remarked, emphasizing his concerns for Rivers’ stability.
He insists that the people of Rivers will resist any attempts by Wike to disrupt their progress.
In light of the recent local government elections, Tam-George called for unity among the newly elected chairmen.
He believes they should work closely with Governor Fubara to focus on improving education and healthcare.
Tam-George said, “I expect the Governor to have a quick retreat with the LGA Chairmen who have just been elected.”
He stressed the importance of collaboration in addressing the pressing needs of Rivers State.
Residents of Rivers State have been closely watching the political developments involving Wike and the current administration.
Many citizens are concerned about the impact of political tensions on local governance and public services.
Tam-George’s statements resonate with those who feel that Wike’s actions may jeopardize the state’s stability.
Local leaders and citizens alike are calling for a focus on community issues rather than political rivalry.
