Renowned music producer and singer Don Jazzy recently donated N100 million to support the newly launched non-governmental organisation (NGO) of social media influencer Martins ‘VeryDarkMan’ Otse.
The announcement was made by VeryDarkMan on his Instagram page, where he revealed that Don Jazzy’s generous gift helped the NGO raise over N35 million in just the first 24 hours.
Explaining his decision, VeryDarkMan took to Instagram to share his thoughts on why Don Jazzy made the donation.
Despite having only met Don Jazzy briefly, VeryDarkMan emphasised the importance of providing students with a strong academic foundation.
“I and him (Don Jazzy) met once, shook hands, and that was it,” he added. “We did not even talk for one minute, and not to say he knew my background or anything.”
He said the donation was to support VDM’s work because of its focus on humanity and a bid to give public school kids advanced education.
VeryDarkMan launched the NGO to revolutionise public education in Nigeria. The organisation plans to incorporate modern teaching methods and technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance learning experiences for students.
During the launch event, VeryDarkMan expressed gratitude for the overwhelming public support and donations. He stated, “We received over N35 million within the first day, and it shows how much people care about education in Nigeria.”
At the same time, VDM used the platform to criticise other NGOs, alleging that some are more focused on personal wealth than on genuinely helping others.
“Some organisations pretend to help but use their platforms to accumulate personal wealth,” he said. “We aim to be different by making a real impact in the education sector.”
VDM announced that his NGO plans to recruit National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to teach in public schools. This initiative recognizes the struggles many corps members face financially while allowing them to contribute meaningfully to education.
“Many corps members want to make a difference, but they also face financial challenges,” VDM explained. “We will provide them with opportunities to teach and make an impact in students’ lives.”
VeryDarkMan is currently involved in a legal dispute with prominent figures, including human rights lawyer Femi Falana and singer Falz, as well as controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky.
The conflict arises from alleged leaked audio recordings that involve bribery concerning Bobrisky’s prison sentence earlier this year. Despite this controversy, VDM remains focused on his NGO’s mission.
Don Jazzy’s generous donation has garnered positive reactions from the public and celebrities alike. Many are praising the music producer for his commitment to improving education in Nigeria.
