Rapper Falz has opened up about his ongoing conflict with social critic VeryDarkMan (VDM).
In a recent interview with media personality Adesope, Falz addressed the allegations made against him by VDM.
“I don’t know much about VeryDarkMan’s activism,” Falz said.
He explained that prior to VDM’s video where he spoke about Falz and his father, he had little awareness of the critic’s work.
Falz mentioned, “What I had seen was some stuff about people that didn’t have NAFDAC numbers and selling products. At the time, I thought he was doing something right.”
Allegations Against Falz
Falz’s comments come after VDM released a video in September, making serious allegations against him and his father.
In the video, VDM suggested that Falz and his father were involved in manipulating justice and bribing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He also insinuated that Falz had a homosexual relationship with the popular social media figure Bobrisky.
“This person thought it wise to sit down and allege that myself and my dad connived with a certain individual,” Falz explained.
The rapper expressed his disbelief at the allegations, stating, “Absolutely no proof. Why would you just come and allege all these things with absolutely nothing to support this statement?”
Falz emphasized that such claims are harmful and damaging to his reputation.
Legal Action for Defamation
In response to VDM’s allegations, Falz has taken legal action for defamation of character.
He stated that his counsel has reached out to the individual VDM claims made the statements against him and his father.
That individual admitted there was no financial transaction involving Falz or his dad.
“So now you have to defend yourself because he who alleges must prove,” Falz said.
He revealed that the case of defamation is currently in court.
A High Court had instructed VDM to take down the video where he made these allegations, but VDM has reportedly refused to comply.
“Now the narrative is that me and my family want to oppress this guy because we have legal muscle,” Falz said.
He added, “Come on, man! I do not look for trouble. I am always on my own.”
Confrontation with VeryDarkMan
Falz recounted a phone conversation he had with VDM after the allegations were made.
He described VDM as defensive during their discussion.
“VDM said to me, ‘Shebi you are a lawyer, go to court!’” Falz recalled.
He believes VDM wanted the situation to escalate to litigation.
“What he thinks that does for him, I do not know,” Falz said.
He continued, “I do not know if he thinks it will posture him as some sort of hero, but he clearly wanted the litigation.”
Public Perception and Accountability
The feud between Falz and VDM has sparked public interest and debate on social media.
Many fans and followers are keen to understand the dynamics of this conflict and its implications.
Falz is known for his activism, particularly in social justice and human rights issues.
His reputation is at stake as he navigates this legal battle.
He made it clear that he takes these accusations seriously.
“I have gone to court for defamation of character because clearly that is what this is,” he said.
A Call for Responsibility
In light of the allegations, Falz has called for accountability.
He believes that public figures must be held responsible for their statements, especially when they can harm others.
“Defamation is a serious matter,” he stated.
He emphasized the importance of evidence when making claims about someone’s character.
“People should not just say things without any proof,” he added.
Falz’s stance highlights the need for responsible discourse, especially in a society where social media plays a significant role in shaping opinions.
Looking Ahead
As the legal proceedings continue, Falz remains focused on defending his reputation.
He has expressed hope that justice will prevail in this matter.
“I am going to ask for damages because that is the only remedy available in a civil suit,” he explained.
