The Kano royal palace was alive with festivities on Friday as DSP Aminu Sanusi Lamido, son of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, was turbaned as the Ciroman Kano.
Relatives, dignitaries, and residents gathered in large numbers to witness the historic event, which marked the appointment of an heir to the throne of the Kano Emirate.
“A Crown Fit for Loyalty and Service” – Emir Sanusi II
Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, in his address, described his son as deserving of the title for his loyalty, philanthropy, and service to the community.
“I chose to honour him with this crown because of his good nature and philanthropy,” the Emir stated during the ceremony.
He lauded DSP Aminu’s achievements as a police officer and his contributions to national security through his role at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
“You inherited the title of Ciroma from your grandfather, and you will now be the 17th to hold this title,” he said.
The Emir urged his son to emulate the discipline and virtues of past titleholders.
A Historic Title with Deep Significance
The title of Ciroma is one of the most prestigious in the Kano Emirate system.
Reserved for the crown prince and heir apparent, it signifies a high level of trust and responsibility.
The Ciroma is tasked with overseeing specific districts within the Emirate, maintaining traditional authority, and representing the Emir when needed.
DSP Aminu Sanusi Lamido follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Ambassador Aminu Sanusi, who held the same title until his passing in the 1990s.
The title was most recently held by Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, who became the Emir of Bichi before his removal in 2024.
Acceptance Speech: “A Pledge to Serve the Kano Emirate”
In his acceptance speech, DSP Aminu Sanusi expressed profound gratitude to his father and the Kano Emirate.
“I thank His Highness for this honour and pledge to serve the Kano Emirate diligently,” he said.
He vowed to uphold the traditions of the title and work towards the progress of the Emirate.
Dignitaries and Guests Grace the Occasion
The turbaning ceremony drew a host of prominent figures from across Nigeria.
Among the dignitaries were Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, and his deputy, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo.
Traditional titleholders, clerics, and business moguls were also in attendance.
The presence of high-profile guests underscored the significance of the event, which blends cultural heritage and leadership responsibilities.
The Legacy of Ciroma in the Kano Emirate
The role of Ciroma has been central to the governance and stability of the Kano Emirate for generations.
As the 17th Ciroman Kano, DSP Aminu inherits a legacy steeped in tradition and service.
His grandfather’s tenure as Ciroma was marked by his contributions to the Emirate’s development and his diplomatic service to Nigeria.
DSP Aminu is expected to uphold these values and bring a modern touch to the ancient institution.
“A New Chapter for Kano Royalty”
The turbaning of DSP Aminu Sanusi marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Kano Emirate.
Observers believe that his appointment reflects Emir Sanusi II’s vision of leadership rooted in service, loyalty, and community development.
