Nollywood star Ibrahim Chatta has spoken out about claims that he is underrated in the Nigerian film industry.
The Yoruba movie actor, known for his powerful performances, set the record straight during an interview on Talk to B, a podcast hosted by fellow actor Biola Bayo.
Chatta dismissed the perception that he is overlooked, describing himself as blessed and deeply grateful for God’s grace.
“I hear people say, ‘Ibrahim Chatta is underrated,’ but I think differently,” he declared. “I’m one lucky bastard. The grace I have enjoyed from God is too much. I don’t even deserve it.”
Chatta, who is celebrated for his roles in Yoruba-speaking films, made a surprising revelation during the interview.
He disclosed that he ranks among the highest-paid actors in the Yoruba movie industry, an achievement that many might not associate with his seemingly modest public image.
“My colleagues know my charges are high,” he explained. “But because I don’t flaunt my earnings on social media, people think otherwise.”
The actor added that this misconception stems from his low-profile approach to fame, which differs from the flashy lifestyle many entertainers showcase online.
Chatta also credited his fans for their unwavering support throughout his career.
He reflected on his humble beginnings, sharing how he overcame the challenges of not having formal education to rise as a force in the entertainment world.
“Despite my lack of education, my fans stood by me. Their love and support made all the difference,” he said.
The actor revealed that his journey began with music and soundtracks, which helped him earn a stable income.
This foundation allowed him to demand fair pay for his acting roles, even before it became standard practice in the industry.
Chatta had warm words for his fans, describing them as the backbone of his success.
“I love you so much. You guys are amazing people,” he said passionately. “You are the reason I keep pushing forward, despite the challenges.”
For anyone doubting his status in Nollywood, Chatta had this to say:
“I may not post everything online, but my work speaks for me. I’m content with what God has given me, and I’ll continue to give my best to the industry.”
Chatta’s comments come at a time when many Yoruba-speaking actors are gaining international recognition.
The industry has seen significant growth, with more movies reaching global audiences and actors commanding higher paychecks.
However, Chatta’s candid admission reminds aspiring entertainers that fame is not the only measure of success.
