Famous Nigerian singer Ice Prince has revealed the heartbreaking reason he couldn’t attend university, despite his dreams of higher education.
In a recent interview on the ‘Listen’ podcast, the rapper, whose real name is Panshak Zamani, opened up about the challenges he faced after losing both of his parents at a young age.
Ice Prince’s journey to success is filled with pain and sacrifice. His father passed away when he was only 11 years old, leaving him and his family to cope with the loss. Just a decade later, when Ice Prince was about 21 or 22 years old, his mother also passed away, making him an orphan at a time when he was still trying to find his place in the world.

“Being the only son with no parents was tough,” Ice Prince shared. “I have a huge family that depends on me, but I don’t have any uncles or aunts to rely on. It was just me.”
This isolation made it even harder for him to keep up with his education. At one point, Ice Prince was forced to miss weeks of school due to his inability to pay for tuition.
“I spent at least three weeks at home every term because of school fees,” he said.
But one of the most painful moments in his life came when he lost his chance to attend university. Ice Prince had been accepted into a university, but a mere N20,000 (about $40 USD) stood in his way.
The deadline for paying the school fees was fast approaching, and despite his best efforts, he couldn’t raise the money in time. This delay caused him to lose his admission, a moment that would have shattered the dreams of many others.
“I didn’t go to the University because of N20,000,” Ice Prince explained. “I had about two weeks to pay that money, but I couldn’t raise it on time. That was how I lost the admission.”
Looking back at this loss, Ice Prince is not bitter but rather focused on how far he’s come. He has become one of the most successful and respected artists in the Nigerian music industry.
He encourages others who face similar struggles not to see obstacles as reasons to give up. Instead, he wants people to look at his life and find hope and inspiration.
“I want people to look at my life and say, if I can succeed, then no one has an excuse to fail,” Ice Prince said.
