Edo SUBEB Chairman Suspends Teacher for Misgrading Student’s Work

    Share

In a swift move to ensure accountability in the education sector, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), suspended a primary school teacher for improperly scoring a pupil’s work. The incident occurred during Iyamu’s inspection of schools across Benin, Oredo Local Government.

While reviewing a student’s workbook at Uwa Primary School, Iyamu discovered that the teacher had awarded a correct score for an incorrect answer. The teacher, despite holding a National Certificate in Education (NCE), failed to appropriately assess the student’s work. Iyamu expressed deep dissatisfaction with the teacher’s performance, emphasizing that even certified educators must demonstrate competence in their roles.

During the inspection, Iyamu visited several primary schools, including Adesuwa Primary School and Akenzua Primary School, where he reaffirmed the state’s commitment to improving education standards. He highlighted ongoing efforts to rebuild dilapidated school structures, with the aim of providing conducive learning environments for students.

“This administration is dedicated to elevating the state’s education sector. We cannot compromise on the quality of education, and will not tolerate incompetence,” Iyamu declared.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, who has been proactive in addressing school infrastructure challenges, recently ordered the demolition and reconstruction of a severely deteriorated school building. Work on the site is progressing rapidly, with an emphasis on timely completion to ensure that students benefit from a safe and modern learning environment.
