The Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) in Anambra State has heaped glowing praise on the Divisional Police Officer of the 3-3 Police Division, Onitsha, CSP Emeka Obi, for his relentless commitment to tackling crime and ensuring law and order. The group declared Obi a shining example of the ideal Nigerian police officer, citing his impactful efforts that resulted in a crime-free holiday season in his jurisdiction.

In a statement co-signed by Comrades Vincent Ezekwueme and Chidi Mbah, the CLO commended Obi’s “proactiveness, diligence, patriotism, and doggedness” in addressing criminal activities and maintaining peace.

Rekindling Trust in the Police Force

CSP Obi’s leadership has been a beacon of hope for the community, said the CLO, which noted his swift responses to distress calls and complaints. “He has rekindled people’s hope and confidence in the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement read.

The group highlighted Obi’s hands-on approach to traffic management, citing his efforts to decongest the notoriously busy 3-3 Junction in Onitsha. “Through his leadership, two traffic control cubicles were installed, and traffic flow was significantly improved,” the statement continued.

Obi’s presence extended beyond traffic management to community safety during sensitive periods. The CLO lauded his role in ensuring the safety of lives and property during the distribution of Christmas and New Year palliatives by Bishop E.C. Obiora of the Life of Faith Bible Church at Federal Housing Estate.

    Community Partnership in Policing

The CLO credited Obi with fostering a culture of collaboration and trust between the police and local residents. This partnership, they said, was evident in the 3-3 Estates Association’s decision to procure a state-of-the-art operational vehicle for the police division. “This remarkable gesture was inspired by the confidence and trust they have in CSP Obi’s leadership,” the CLO noted.

Obi’s active involvement in anti-crime operations has also drawn applause. “He personally leads onslaughts against criminals, which has significantly enhanced the division’s effectiveness in combating crime,” the rights group stated.

    A Call for Emulation

The CLO urged other public servants and officers of the Nigeria Police Force to draw inspiration from Obi’s achievements. “CSP Obi is a model officer whose actions speak volumes about the potential of policing when executed with dedication and a community-first mindset,” Ezekwueme remarked.

In addition to commending Obi, the CLO extended its gratitude to the 3-3 Estates Association for their unyielding support for security initiatives in the area. “Their solidarity has greatly contributed to the protection of lives and property in Onitsha and its environs,” the group stated.

    A Record of Success

Under Obi’s leadership, the 3-3 Police Division has become a symbol of efficiency and community-centric policing. Residents report a heightened sense of safety, which is particularly significant during festive seasons historically plagued by a spike in criminal activities.

“Christmas and New Year celebrations in Onitsha have never been this peaceful,” said a local resident, adding, “CSP Obi’s strategies have restored a sense of security to our neighborhoods.”

    Broader Implications for Policing

The CLO’s commendation of CSP Obi highlights the need for a shift in Nigeria’s policing culture. Critics of the force often point to a lack of responsiveness and strained relationships between the police and the public. Obi’s approach provides a counter-narrative, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures, accountability, and community engagement.

Obi’s work aligns with global best practices in community policing, which prioritize collaboration between law enforcement and residents to address safety concerns. This model has gained traction in countries like Kenya and South Africa, where similar strategies have reduced crime rates in urban areas.
