The incident occurred on the evening of Friday, February 21, 2025, in the Ijedodo area of Lagos.

The events that led to the tragic death began around 8:00 p.m. on that fateful Friday. According to the police, a neighbour of the couple witnessed an argument between the pair, which quickly escalated into physical violence. The neighbour reportedly saw Gbolahan Adebayo beating his girlfriend inside his apartment.

Shortly after the altercation, Gbolahan reportedly screamed for help, prompting the neighbour to rush to the scene. When the neighbour entered the apartment, they found Miss Adaora lying unconscious with visible injuries on her body. It was clear that the young woman had suffered severe physical trauma during the altercation.

The neighbour quickly contacted emergency services, and Miss Adaora was rushed to a hospital in Ijegun, a nearby area in Lagos. Sadly, despite efforts to revive her, she was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital. The marks on her body suggested that the beating had been brutal and sustained, leading to her tragic death.

Confirming the incident to journalists, the Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, expressed his shock over the incident and provided details about the ongoing investigation. “At around 8:00 p.m. on Friday, the suspect, Gbolahan Adebayo, was seen beating his girlfriend in his apartment at Ijedodo. Domestic violence, especially intimate partner violence, continues to be a significant problem in many Nigerian communities. According to reports from human rights organisations, there have been increasing cases of violence against women, with many of the victims being killed by their partners or spouses.

In Lagos alone, there have been numerous cases of violence within relationships, ranging from physical abuse to emotional and psychological harm. The tragic death of Miss Adaora highlights the need for more comprehensive efforts to address domestic violence, provide support for victims, and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.
