A woman, accused of being behind a series of thefts in Makurdi, was apprehended today after she was caught trying to steal in the Gyado Villa area of the city. Eyewitnesses say she had been using keys to break into students’ rooms and make off with valuable items. After her capture, the woman was badly injured and narrowly escaped being lynched by an angry mob.
Gyado Villa, home to several students from nearby universities and colleges, is known for its high concentration of rented accommodations. Many students, who rely on their belongings for their daily needs, have fallen victim to the thief in recent weeks.
According to local sources, the woman had been targeting students’ rooms for some time. Using a set of master keys, which she allegedly obtained through unknown means, she was able to access students’ rooms unnoticed. Victims reported missing valuables, such as mobile phones, laptops, and cash, and police began investigating the string of thefts that had plagued the area.
Today’s incident occurred when the woman attempted to break into yet another student’s room in the early hours of the morning. However, this time, her actions were noticed by a group of students who had been on alert after hearing about the recent thefts in the area.
The group of students quickly gathered, and after a brief confrontation, the woman was detained. The students, feeling both angered and betrayed, proceeded to beat her. The situation grew tense as a large crowd gathered, with many residents demanding that the thief be punished for her crimes.
