There was panic and confusion in the Idimu area of Lagos State on Sunday morning after two male corpses were found along Oladun Road — one of which had been gruesomely beheaded.
The shocking discovery has thrown residents into fear, with many now worried about their safety and the return of suspected cult-related violence in the neighbourhood.
According to residents, the incident likely happened late Saturday night, but the bodies were only found around 6 a.m. on Sunday by early risers heading out for morning activities.
When our reporter visited the scene later that morning, the two corpses were still lying on the ground, separated by several metres. One of the victims had his head completely severed, while the other was intact and later identified by locals as a man popularly known as “Baba Oja.”
The gruesome nature of the killings attracted a crowd of onlookers, many of whom stood in disbelief. Mothers covered their children’s eyes, and others took photos and videos on their phones while whispering among themselves.
A resident, Mr. Lanre Ajao, said he was deeply disturbed by what he saw, especially because he knew one of the victims personally.
“The one without the head is still not known, but the other person is Baba Oja,” Ajao said. “He is a popular face here. He was always at the Council bus stop with some boys, helping to control traffic for flashy cars. They would chase after drivers and collect money. In fact, I saw him just yesterday doing the same thing.”
He said the area had never seen such a brutal killing and called on the government to help restore peace and security.
While the exact cause of the killings is still unknown, another resident who spoke to our reporter suggested the deaths might be linked to cult activity.
“The way they were killed shows that this was more than just a street fight. It is cult-related,” the resident said. “Their bodies were left there like a warning. These kinds of killings are done to send a message.”
