    Gov. Okpebholo Denies N6bn Payment to IPOB

    The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has vehemently denied accusations from the proscribed group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), that he allocated N6 billion to compensate terrorists in the state.

    In a statement issued on Thursday, Okpebholo, through his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, described the claims as “fictitious, malicious, and misleading.” He dismissed the publication by IPOB as part of an attempt to discredit his administration and create public unrest.

    The IPOB had accused the governor of betraying the people of Edo State by paying such a large sum to “compensate terrorists.” Okpebholo rejected these accusations, calling them inciteful and an attempt to destabilize the peace in the state.

    In his statement, Okpebholo stressed that the Edo government has never and will never pay compensation to any group involved in terrorism or criminal activities. He said the allegations were a calculated attempt by IPOB to associate his administration with violence and disunity.

    “The Edo government stands firmly for justice and the rule of law. We are committed to ensuring the safety of all our citizens, irrespective of their background or belief,” Okpebholo said.

    He further rejected claims that vigilantes were handed over to “Fulani authorities,” describing the statement as absurd and disrespectful to the security forces who work tirelessly to maintain peace.

    Okpebholo highlighted that Edo State is known for its unity, peace, and hospitality. He warned against IPOB’s rhetoric, stating that such attempts to incite ethnic division and violence would not succeed. The governor urged the people of Edo to resist IPOB’s dangerous narratives and reaffirm the state’s commitment to peace.

    “Edo residents are known for their peaceful nature. We will not allow any group to destabilize our harmonious society or manipulate facts for political gain,” he added.

    He also called on security agencies to investigate and prosecute those behind the false publication in order to protect the state from any form of ethnic conflict or misinformation.

    Despite the allegations, Governor Okpebholo assured the people of Edo that his administration remains focused on inclusive development and maintaining security for all law-abiding citizens. He reiterated that IPOB’s propaganda had no place in Edo’s society, and their attempts to forcefully implement sit-at-home orders and commit acts of violence would not be tolerated.

    Okpebholo concluded by reaffirming his commitment to peace, security, and justice for all in Edo State. He called for unity in resisting those who seek to spread division and violence.
