    Share

Armed bandits attacked Illela-Baraya Village in the Gwadabawa Local Government Area of Sokoto State on the night of April 25, 2025, leaving three victims dead. The attack occurred around 10:00 PM when a large group of bandits stormed the village and opened fire, killing the three individuals during a sporadic shooting.

According to intelligence sources, the bandits launched the assault swiftly and with force. They left behind three empty AK-47 ammunition shells, which were later recovered by security personnel who arrived at the scene shortly after the attack. Despite their violent actions, the bandits were unable to steal any livestock as a result of a gun battle with a team of security operatives that responded quickly to the scene. The security forces managed to push the attackers back, forcing them to retreat.

However, despite efforts to save them, the victims succumbed to their injuries and were confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital. Following the attack, troops thoroughly combed the area, and patrols were increased to ensure the safety of the community and deter further attacks.

The attack is another reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing several communities in northern Nigeria, as armed banditry continues to be a significant issue in states like Sokoto, Kaduna, and Zamfara. Authorities have yet to announce any arrests related to the incident, but the military and local law enforcement have vowed to intensify efforts to tackle the rising wave of violence in the region.
