Adefowora Abiodun, one of the suspected promoters of the controversial cryptocurrency platform, Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX), has voluntarily surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
The EFCC had recently declared Abiodun and three others wanted for their alleged roles in a fraudulent investment scheme worth over $1 billion. The suspects are accused of luring Nigerians into investing in CBEX, which is now under investigation for fraud.
Abiodun turned himself in on Monday around 4 p.m. at the EFCC headquarters, accompanied by his lawyers, family members, and friends. His lawyer, Babatunde Busari, said his client took the step to clear his name and correct the negative image painted in the media.
This development follows a court order from the Federal High Court in Abuja which, last Thursday, granted the EFCC permission to arrest and detain six individuals linked to CBEX. Justice Emeka Nwite, who issued the order, said the commission had presented enough evidence to justify the request.
Other suspects named in the court order include Adefowora Oluwanisola, Emmanuel Uko, Seyi Oloyede, Avwerosuo Otorudo, and Chukwuebuka Ehirim.
The EFCC has reiterated its commitment to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure justice is served, as more Nigerians continue to speak out about their losses to the failed crypto investment platform.
