The Bayelsa State Government has approved the recruitment of more medical doctors and laboratory scientists as part of its ongoing civil service employment drive.
This was disclosed by the state’s Deputy Governor, Mr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, during a courtesy visit by the Bayelsa branch of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) to his office in Yenagoa on Wednesday.
Ewhrudjakpo said the recruitment aims to address shortages in the health sector and improve service delivery across the state. He stressed the importance of teamwork among health professionals and assured that qualified personnel would be hired based on a needs assessment.
“We are making progress in the health sector, but we know more can be done. Employment slots have already been approved for doctors and lab scientists. We need competent hands to improve healthcare delivery,” he said.
The deputy governor also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with professional bodies to make health services more accessible and affordable to Bayelsans.
Earlier, the State Chairman of AMLSN, Mrs. Eunice Ayamaer-Lelei, appealed to the government to recruit more qualified lab scientists and provide modern equipment. She also called for the implementation of call duty allowances for her members.
Laboratory scientists, she noted, play a vital role in patient care and must be adequately supported to perform effectively.
