The Nigerian Army is stepping up its efforts to defeat terrorism and insurgency, with the introduction of new techniques and strategies aimed at strengthening the nation’s security.

This announcement was made by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, during a firepower demonstration on Wednesday in Bauchi, as part of the 2025 Combat Arms Training Week (CAT). Oluyede, who was represented by Maj.-Gen. Henry Wesley, Commander of the Ordnance Corps, assured Nigerians that the Army had made significant strides in modernizing its equipment and enhancing its operational procedures.

“Through strategic discussions, operations, and tactics, we are ensuring that the most effective capabilities are in place to tackle the challenges we face,” Oluyede said. “It is at the tip of the spear that these new strategies will be executed on the ground.”

He emphasized that the federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has procured advanced weapons and equipment designed to take on terrorism head-on. Some of these tools have already been deployed, while others are still expected to arrive in the field in the coming months.

“This event is very significant because it highlights the readiness and capabilities of the Nigerian Army in combating terrorism. The new techniques, as well as the newly acquired equipment, will bring a positive change on the battlefield,” Oluyede added.
