Edo Govt Sacks Three Traditional Rulers

    Share

The Edo State Government, led by Senator Monday Okpebholo, has removed three traditional rulers in Etsako West and Etsako East local government areas, citing breaches of traditional and legal rules.

In a statement released Monday in Benin City by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Umar Ikhilor, the government announced the dethronement of Umoru Inusa Umoru as the Aidenogie of South Ibie in Etsako West. His removal followed findings that the traditional stool was not vacant when he was appointed. Alhaji Aliyu Kelvin Danesi was reinstated to the position with immediate effect.

Also removed was Lukman Akemokue as the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella in Etsako East. The government said his appointment did not follow the correct succession process as outlined in the Bendel State Legal Notice 132 of 1979, which regulates traditional rulership in the area.

In addition, Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor was removed as the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Agenebode, in the same Etsako East LGA. His removal was linked to security concerns, including repeated cases of kidnappings and killings in his domain, which reportedly led to his earlier suspension.

The statement noted that the Edo State Executive Council approved the removals during its meeting on Tuesday, April 29, and that steps are being taken to begin proper selection processes for new traditional rulers in Okpella and Uwano Kingdom.
