    Share

A deadly clash between local hunters and Fulani herders in Gidan Ori Kajan Village, Matari area of Kaduna State, has claimed the life of a 50-year-old man, Haladu Saidu.

The violence occurred on Saturday, May 3, 2025, when a group of hunters from Wucicciri Village in Zaria stormed the Fulani settlement. Eyewitnesses said the hunters, armed with sticks, cutlasses, swords, and accompanied by dogs, attacked the village in what appears to be part of a lingering dispute.

During the clash, Saidu was hit on the head and was later taken to Maigana Health Center, where he was confirmed dead. His body was released to the family and buried according to Islamic tradition, without a post-mortem examination.

In the aftermath of the incident, police in Maigana, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), arrested five suspects linked to the attack. Those arrested include Abdulaziz Magaji, Kamaludin Abubakar, Ali Idris, Saminu Dahiru, and Jamilu Umar—all from Wucicciri Village.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the full cause of the attack and bring those responsible to justice.
