Popular Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, narrowly escaped harm in the United States after a stray bullet pierced through the window of his hotel room.
The incident, which Kuti described as shocking, occurred while he was relaxing in his room. He shared a video of the aftermath on his Instagram page, showing the broken window and the bullet hole.
In the video, a clearly shaken Kuti said:
“Tell me you are in America without telling me you are in America. I am in my hotel room just chilling and boom — this happened.”
He also questioned the idea of the U.S. being a “civilised” country, noting the irony of such violence in a place often regarded as safe and developed.
“I read somewhere that these are the civilized people,” he added, reacting to the frightening experience.
The exact location of the hotel and circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear as of the time of filing this report. However, fans and followers flooded his social media page with messages of relief and concern, glad the artist was not hurt.
Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, has been touring and performing internationally. This incident adds to growing concerns about random gun violence in parts of the United States.
