Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have attacked a passenger vehicle along the Otukpo-Adoka road in Benue State, killing two passengers and kidnapping four others. The tragic incident occurred around 11 pm on Sunday, May 4, 2025, as the vehicle was traveling from Abuja to Otukpo.
Witnesses reported that the attackers opened fire as soon as they saw the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and veer off the road into a nearby bush. The assailants then stormed the vehicle and abducted four passengers while killing two others on the spot.
The Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, who confirmed the attack, explained that most of the passengers had already alighted in Adoka before the incident occurred. He added, “The six passengers remaining in the vehicle were intercepted along the Adoka-Otukpo road. Two people were killed, and four others were taken away by the kidnappers.”
The attack has raised concerns about the growing insecurity in Benue, with many locals calling for increased security measures to protect travelers and prevent further violence. The police are yet to make any arrests, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
