    Police Bust Notorious Kurudu Gang

    Share

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers who have been terrorising residents in the Kurudu area and surrounding communities of Abuja.

The suspects, 25-year-old Hassan Adamu and Auwal Mohammed, were apprehended on Wednesday, May 8, during a targeted operation by the Command’s elite Scorpion Squad. The arrest was made at about 2:00 p.m., following credible intelligence on the gang’s hideout.

Police sources confirmed that the two men were linked to several violent robberies in Kurudu and nearby areas. One of the suspects reportedly confessed to his involvement in a fatal robbery at Angwan Hausawa in Kurudu, where a victim identified simply as Mohammed was stabbed during an attack and later died from his injuries.

“The suspects have been on our watchlist due to their involvement in a series of armed robberies in the area,” said a senior police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity. “Their arrest is a major breakthrough in curbing the rising cases of armed robbery in Kurudu.”

The police recovered a sharp dagger from the suspects, which investigators believe was meant to be used in another planned attack. The suspects also provided information about other members of their gang who are still on the run. These individuals are believed to be armed and dangerous, prompting the police to launch a manhunt to capture them and recover more weapons.

Following the arrests, residents of Kurudu and nearby communities have expressed relief, commending the police for their swift action. Some locals told our reporter that the gang had caused sleepless nights for many households, especially traders and commercial motorcycle riders who were frequent targets of the group.

“They move around at night with knives and sometimes even guns. We are happy that at least two of them have been caught. We hope the rest will be arrested soon too,” said Musa Sani, a resident of Kurudu.

The spokesperson of the FCT Police Command is expected to issue an official statement soon, detailing the full outcome of the operation and next steps in the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents across Abuja. He urged the public to remain vigilant and continue to support law enforcement by reporting suspicious movements and individuals.

The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

This development comes amid wider efforts by security agencies to tackle the recent rise in criminal activities across the FCT, particularly in satellite towns where criminal gangs often take advantage of less-policed areas to carry out attacks.
