The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to begin purchasing locally assembled vehicles in line with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Nigeria First” policy.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, made this known after inspecting vehicles displayed by local car manufacturers at the NCS headquarters in Abuja. The vehicles were showcased by members of the Nigeria Automotive Manufacturers Association (NAMA), including Mikano Motors, Nord Automobile Limited, and Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM).
Adeniyi expressed satisfaction with the quality and design of the vehicles. “In terms of aesthetics, I am satisfied with what I see here. In terms of functionality, we have been assured that the vehicles are efficient,” he said. He also emphasized the importance of supporting Nigerian industries and cutting down on vehicle imports.
Mikano Motors offered up to six years or 200,000-kilometre warranty for manufacturing defects, while IVM, which produces vehicles using mostly locally sourced parts, promised to deliver reliable service to Customs.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to grow Nigeria’s industrial base, create jobs, and promote made-in-Nigeria products across government agencies.
