Victor Osimhen Leads Galatasaray to 19th Turkish Cup Title

    Share

Victor Osimhen was the star of the show as his brilliant brace helped Galatasaray defeat Trabzonspor 3-0 in the Turkish Cup final at Gaziantep Stadium. The victory secured Galatasaray’s 19th Turkish Cup title, their first since 2019.

Osimhen, who has been in sensational form all season, opened the scoring in the second half after Baris Alper Yilmaz had given Galatasaray the lead in the 5th minute. Osimhen, who had already impressed with a brace in the quarter-finals against Fenerbahçe and a goal and assist in the semi-final against Konyaspor, showed his quality again.

In the 55th minute, Osimhen powered through a Trabzonspor defender to double Galatasaray’s advantage. Later, he finished a swift counter-attack with his second goal of the game, marking his 35th goal of the season, and sealing the win for the Turkish giants.

The victory also had an extra twist, as Osimhen faced Anthony Nwakaeme, his Nigerian compatriot, who was hoping to inspire Trabzonspor to victory on his return.

This title is Osimhen’s first with Galatasaray, adding to his career collection of trophies, including the U-17 World Cup, U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and Serie A title. Additionally, his 35 goals this season have broken a long-standing record, making him the highest-scoring foreign player in a single season for Galatasaray, surpassing Mario Jardel’s 24-year-old milestone.
