A fire outbreak occurred on Thursday at the Ifako Ijaiye General Hospital in Lagos, but no lives were lost, according to hospital authorities.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Bamidele Mustapha, confirmed the incident and said the fire started around 3:30 p.m. from the nurses’ call room on the second floor. Speaking to journalists at the scene, he thanked God and praised the swift response of the Lagos State Fire Service.

“I was in a meeting when I heard shouting. We rushed out and saw the fire. Thankfully, our staff had fire drill training and tried to control it using extinguishers, but we had to call the fire service,” Dr. Mustapha said. “They arrived in less than 10 minutes and put out the fire.”

At the time of the fire, 110 patients, including newborns and their mothers, were on admission. All patients and staff were safely evacuated with no injuries or casualties recorded.

The CMD said the cause of the fire is yet to be officially confirmed, but it may have been caused by an electrical spark. He assured the public that the hospital’s structure remains intact.
