Teen Mum’s Baby Stolen, Sold, Five in Police Net

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspects — one man and four women — for allegedly stealing and selling a two-week-old baby for N3 million.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement released on Thursday. He said the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) took over the case after it was first reported at Ajah Police Division on May 5.

According to Hundeyin, the case began when a man reported that his 16-year-old cousin, who was pregnant, had gone missing. The young girl had been handed over to a guardian due to financial hardship, with plans for her to stay there until she delivered her baby.

However, the guardian allegedly conspired with four others to move the girl to an unknown location. When she was later found, her pregnancy was gone and so was the baby.

Further investigations revealed that the baby had been sold for N3 million. Police detectives were able to trace and recover the baby boy in Agemuwo, Badagry.

“The child was found safe and sound,” Hundeyin said. “He is currently being cared for by the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit and will be reunited with his biological mother soon.”

The police assured the public that investigations are still ongoing and all those involved will be brought to justice.

CSP Hundeyin reaffirmed the Lagos State Police Command’s commitment to protecting lives, especially vulnerable members of society like women and children.
