The Nigerian Army has dismissed one of its personnel, Lance Corporal Samuel Emmanuel, after he was found guilty of taking part in an armed robbery. He has since been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for prosecution.
The soldier, who served under the 16 Brigade Garrison in Bayelsa State, was court-martialled during the week after his arrest. Following the military trial, he was discharged from the Army.
A statement from the Army confirmed his dismissal, saying:
“Lance Corporal Samuel Emmanuel has been officially dismissed from the Nigerian Army following his involvement in a case of armed robbery. After thorough investigation and military proceedings, he was found guilty.”
The Army also highlighted its strong stance against criminal behaviour within its ranks.
“The Nigerian Army maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline and criminal behaviour. All personnel are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct, professionalism, and integrity — without exception,” the statement read.
The case has now been transferred to the police for further investigation and legal action.
