Morocco and South Africa will renew their rivalry on Sunday in the final of the TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, 28 years after their last title clash in 1997.

The highly anticipated showdown, taking place in Egypt, is a repeat of the 1997 final, where Morocco edged South Africa 1-0 to win their first and only U-20 AFCON title. This time, both teams come into the match with determination—Morocco looking to recreate history, and South Africa seeking redemption and their first crown at this level.

Morocco reached the final by defeating hosts Egypt 1-0 in the semi-finals, thanks to a well-taken goal by Jones El Abdellaoui. South Africa booked their place with a similar 1-0 victory over Nigeria, with Michael Smith heading home the winner.

Morocco have stood out for their strong defence, keeping clean sheets throughout the knockout phase, while South Africa have shown resilience and growth,

particularly in their disciplined win over the Flying Eagles.
