Gunmen stormed a hotel in Ode-Omu, Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State in the early hours of Saturday, robbing lodgers and carting away valuables, including a Toyota Matrix vehicle and several television sets.
According to the Osun State Amotekun Corps, the robbers attacked guests who had travelled from Lagos to attend a funeral. They fled with a car valued at about ₦7 million and six LG 42-inch TVs worth over ₦3 million.
After the victims reported the incident to the Amotekun office in Gbongan, operatives from both the local and state commands swung into action. With the help of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogere, Ogun State, they tracked the suspects and engaged them in a gun battle.
The shootout forced the robbers to abandon the stolen vehicle and other items in a bush near Ogere. Some of the suspects are believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.
Amotekun Corps Commander, Adekunle Omoyele, confirmed the recovery and praised his team’s quick response and bravery. “This operation shows our commitment to protecting lives and property in Osun,” he said.
The recovered items were returned to their owners on Monday at the Amotekun headquarters in Osogbo. Mr. Olanrewaju Omololu, who owns the stolen car, and Mr. Oyelami Nurudeen, owner of the TVs, both expressed gratitude to Amotekun for their swift and selfless action.
Omoyele urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. “Security is everyone’s business. Osun Amotekun will not rest until criminals are completely flushed out of our communities,” he added.
Amotekun continues to play a vital role in the fight against crime in Osun, earning praise for its grassroots presence and rapid response efforts.
