Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State on Monday led residents in a day of fasting and prayer to seek divine intervention for peace and unity in the state and across Nigeria.

The governor, who spent Sunday night in Rann, headquarters of Kala-Balge Local Government Area, coordinated logistics for security personnel and community volunteers fighting Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents.

In a statewide broadcast earlier on Saturday, Zulum had called on all residents to join him in a voluntary day of fasting and prayer, urging unity and collective faith to overcome Borno’s persistent security challenges.

“In light of our current security challenges, I am calling on all residents of Borno State to unite in a collective act of faith and solidarity,” he said.

On Monday, the governor expressed gratitude to the people of Borno and others across Nigeria—and even beyond—who participated in the spiritual exercise.

“Thousands joined in seeking divine intervention for the security challenges we are facing. We thank everyone for the solidarity,” Zulum said.

To further strengthen the fight against insurgents, Zulum announced the donation of 10 patrol vehicles, including six Takoma/Toyota Hilux vehicles for Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), hunters, and vigilantes, and four-gun trucks for the military.

The governor rounded off his visit to Kala-Balge by distributing food items to over 10,000 families, mostly made up of women and vulnerable persons displaced by violence.

Borno State remains at the frontline of Nigeria’s war against terrorism, with communities like Kala-Balge often targeted by insurgents. Zulum’s leadership has been marked by hands-on engagement with affected communities, support for security agencies, and spiritual mobilisation of residents for peace.
