The Federal Government has announced a N5 million reward for anyone who can provide useful information leading to the arrest of seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State.
This was made known on Wednesday in Abuja by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), DCC Abubakar Umar. The escape reportedly occurred on Tuesday, though details of how the inmates broke out have not yet been disclosed.
Umar said the reward is part of efforts to involve the public in the search. “The Nigerian Correctional Service wishes to inform the general public that a reward of N5 million is being offered to anyone who provides useful information that leads to the recapture of the fleeing inmates,” he stated.
He added that all tips will be treated with strict confidentiality. Citizens are urged to report any suspicious sightings to the nearest security agency or contact the Correctional Service directly.
For reports and tips, the public can reach the NCoS through:

As of now, security agencies have launched a manhunt across Osun State and neighbouring areas. The authorities are yet to release the identities of the escapees.
This is not the first prison break in Nigeria in recent years, raising fresh concerns over security at custodial centres across the country.
