Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has appointed Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf Sambo as his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties.
Sambo, who is the Sarkin Hausawa of Enugu and the recognized leader of the Hausa community in the state, is well-known for promoting unity and peaceful co-existence among diverse ethnic groups. Born and raised in Enugu, he is fluent in the Igbo language and has lived all his life in the state.
As part of his new responsibilities, Sambo has also been named a member of the Enugu State Security and Peace Committee. He currently serves as the National Vice Chairman 1 of the Inter-tribal Leaders Association of Nigeria, an organisation committed to promoting unity across Nigeria’s ethnic groups.
Over the years, Sambo has helped to facilitate the inclusion of several individuals in various government committees and appointments across the state.
In a recent interview, he praised the peaceful atmosphere in Enugu, crediting former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for laying the foundation of unity and security in the state.
“Enugu remains one of the safest places in the South-East, and that’s because of the environment created by the former governor,” he said.
Governor Mbah’s appointment of Sambo is seen by many as a step towards strengthening inter-ethnic harmony and boosting inclusive governance in Enugu State.
