US President Donald Trump has announced a groundbreaking \$175 billion initiative to build the “Golden Dome,” a state-of-the-art missile defense system. The system, inspired by Israel’s successful “Iron Dome,” is designed to intercept and destroy missiles, including hypersonic, ballistic, and cruise missiles, with nearly 100% accuracy.
In a speech on Tuesday, Trump explained that the Golden Dome will integrate advanced technologies, including space-based sensors and interceptors, to provide comprehensive protection for the US homeland. “We will have the best system ever built,” Trump declared, referencing the success of Israel’s Iron Dome, which has received nearly \$3 billion in US funding since its creation in 2011.
The project, expected to cost \$175 billion, will begin with an initial \$25 billion down payment. Trump also confirmed that Canada has expressed interest in joining the defense project. Once fully operational, the Golden Dome will offer protection against missiles launched from across the world and even from space. Trump promised that the system will be operational before the end of his presidential term, completing a mission initially started by President Reagan four decades ago.
