The Zamfara State Government has dismissed reports circulating online about a Christian convert, Zainab, who was allegedly set to stand trial in a Sharia Court for changing her religion. According to a statement by the spokesperson of the state governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the news is entirely false and intended to create unnecessary tension.
The statement clarified that the woman in the photo used to spread the fake news is not Nigerian but Aalia, a woman from Texas, United States. The government also confirmed with the Grand Khadi of Zamfara Sharia Court of Appeal, who stated that no such case has ever been brought before the court in the state.
The government condemned the spread of unverified and misleading news, especially on social media, and has called on security agencies to investigate the origins of the false report and prosecute those responsible for spreading it.
