Several high-profile Nigerian leaders are expected to attend the historic event, including President Bola Tinubu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Their presence underscores the significance of the occasion, not only for Ijesaland but also for Nigeria’s broader cultural heritage.
The Chairman of the Coronation Media Committee, Shola Oshunkeye, confirmed that Obasanjo had already arrived in Ilesa. He also stated that President Tinubu is expected to attend unless unforeseen circumstances arise, in which case his Vice President, Kashim Shettima, will represent him.
“Yesterday night, we received the former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, in Ilesa. Atiku and his wife are also expected to attend, although they have not arrived yet,” Oshunkeye said. “We have sent an official invitation to the presidency, and the president is expected to be present. Security measures are in place for a smooth event.”
Security arrangements for the event have been tightened with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other sister agencies deploying personnel to manage crowds and safeguard the dignitaries.
The spokesperson for the Osun NSCDC, Assistant Superintendent Kehinde Adeleke, stated in a press release that the NSCDC has deployed a significant number of officers to maintain order and prevent disruptions during the ceremony.
NSCDC Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo said, “Our patrol teams are already on the ground, maintaining a visible presence to deter any security threats. We urge anyone with criminal intentions to stay away from the event venue. We also ask all attendees to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and successful coronation.”
