Nearly one month after his abduction, Okasime Olowojoba, a ward leader of the Labour Party (LP) in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, remains missing despite his family paying ransom to his captors.
Olowojoba was kidnapped on April 26, 2025, while returning to Igarra from Auchi with his wife, children, and housemaid. The family says they have lost all contact with the abductors after several rounds of ransom payments, including ₦5.3 million, which the kidnappers later claimed was just for “feeding.”
Speaking with journalists, Olowojoba’s younger brother, Omozame, expressed deep concern about the silence from the kidnappers. “Today makes eight days since we last heard from them. After the initial payment, they demanded another ₦30 million, then ₦5 million more, which we couldn’t raise. Since then, nothing,” he said.
He added that the victim’s wife and children are traumatised by the ordeal, and the entire family is appealing for help. “We are begging the government and security agencies to intervene. He is a young man just trying to take care of his family.”
The incident has sparked widespread worry among Labour Party members and residents of Igarra, who are calling for urgent action to secure his release.
