The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, May 26, 2025, in observance of Memorial Day, a U.S. federal holiday.
The announcement was made via the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria. According to the statement, all routine consular services will be suspended for the day and normal operations will resume on Tuesday, May 27.
Memorial Day, observed annually on the last Monday of May, is a solemn occasion in the U.S. dedicated to honouring military personnel who lost their lives in active service.
The U.S. Mission advised Nigerians with urgent consular issues to visit its official website for emergency contact details during the closure.
