The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspects linked to the gruesome murder and burning of a young woman near the canal behind Mile 12 Market in the ‘Gangare’ area on May 24, 2025.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the deceased, said to be from Nasarawa State, was targeted in a premeditated attack allegedly planned by her estranged boyfriend and his accomplices.

Hundeyin stressed that contrary to some rumours, the incident had nothing to do with blasphemy. He explained that the victim had been living in the area with relatives from the northern part of the country, and her occupation was yet to be determined.

“The issue was personal. The ex-boyfriend, now on the run, had been trying to forcefully rekindle their relationship. He conspired with others and carried out this cruel act,” Hundeyin said.

He added that two of the suspects are now in custody and are helping detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) with ongoing investigations. Efforts are being made to track down the estranged boyfriend and other suspects still at large.
