Security operatives in Anambra State have dismantled a bomb factory allegedly run by armed criminals in Isekke, a community in Ihiala Local Government Area that borders Orsu in Imo State.
The operation, carried out by a joint team of the Police, Military, and Anambra Vigilante Group, led to the recovery and demobilisation of several locally-made improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the targeted camp had served as a major base for non-state actors linked to secessionist violence in the region. The group had reportedly operated from the location for over two years, using it as a launchpad for attacks across Anambra.
Ikenga revealed that during the raid, one of the IEDs buried around the area exploded and damaged the road, but no lives were lost in the operation. He noted that the explosive was likely planted to prevent security forces from gaining access to the facility.
He added that the operation marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to reclaim troubled communities from criminal control.
“The joint forces have sustained security dominance in the area and are advancing efforts to completely flush out the hoodlums,” Ikenga stated.
Isekke and its surroundings had long been considered a no-go area due to the activities of gunmen and militants. Authorities say operations will continue until full peace is restored.
