The Katsina State Government has announced a seven-day holiday for schools across the state to allow students and staff to celebrate the 2025 Eid al-Kabir (Sallah) festival.
This was made known in a statement released on Tuesday by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. The statement, signed by the Director of Schools, Kabir Dodo, directed all public, private, and community schools in the state to observe the break starting from Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
According to the statement, academic activities are expected to resume on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
“I am directed to write and inform you that all schools will go on Eid al-Kabir break from Wednesday, June 4th, 2025 and resume on Wednesday, June 11th, 2025,” the statement read.
It further added: “All Public, Private and Community schools are to comply with the above directives. Wishing you happy Sallah celebrations.”
Eid al-Kabir, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant festivals in Islam. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. It is marked by special prayers, animal sacrifice, family gatherings, and community celebrations.
The holiday is often an important time for families in northern Nigeria, including Katsina State, to come together and celebrate. With the break officially sanctioned, students and teachers will have time to participate fully in the festivities.
The Ministry also used the opportunity to extend its best wishes to staff, students, and parents across the state, urging them to observe the celebrations peacefully and responsibly.
Katsina, one of the prominent states in Northern Nigeria, has traditionally recognized major religious holidays with school breaks to support cultural and religious observance. The announcement aligns with practices in other states across the country where similar breaks are expected.
As the Sallah celebrations approach, security agencies are also expected to tighten measures across the state to ensure a peaceful and safe environment for residents.
